Yeah, one of the first things I aimed to fix was the gallery. I knew we mods couldn't see it, but everyone else could. I toggled some settings in hopes it would work, but since I'm an admin, I could see it anyway, so I wasn't sure until you guys commented on it now.
So is the site starting to be what we want it to be?

i remember talking about making some areas of the forum closed to newbies until they have posted enough to go to the other boards.
I was once on a forum that when your were new, you had an evaluation time and the moderators would grant posting.
Is that a possibility?

We discussed this with the master admin months ago, and she thought that was kind of uncool. We don't want to discourage members from joining, and we don't want them to feel separate from the rest of the forum.

I was just thinking maybe it would make the member want to stick around longer. so they would be around more and actually end up messaging a Mod to get the permission to post. Ya know, with all these lurkers and people joining, and then forgetting the forum.

I agree with the uncool part. I remember when I was still lurking, part of the reason I finally signed up was because I could see everything. I knew before hand what kind of forum this is; I knew what the people were like. If a bunch of stuff was closed off, then maybe I wouldn't have joined. Not to mention, new people would probably still want to talk about the topics in the boards that they'd be excluded from. We'd just end up with double posts and confusion as the higher up people would forget that the newbies can't see everything. |

That would not make me want to stick around at all if I were still new. Getting permission to post somewhere would be annoying. Especially since the only way to want to post in a board, means seeing that the board exists (even if you can't view the content). If I were new, I would feel very left out and less inclined to sick around and up my post count so that I could join in on the "cooler" discussion topics. We're trying to encourage people to join and stick around. Not post a big sign saying "your new and we don't trust you everywhere yet." |
