New idea. Smiley

In addition to the "Shiny Toy Guns" and "General" sections, we make one called "Welcome" and stick it at the top.

Then in it we can put the boards: "Forum Rules - Please Read" and "THIS SITE IS NOT RUN BY SHINY TOY GUNS" as well as an additional "Welcome" board which contains a welcome message written by our lovely Alli. We could even lock the welcome section, so that only the admin can post new things there, so it doesn't become overly busy like the other areas (a good thing for the other areas, of course).

I was thinking that it might be an easy (and obvious) place for new members to start. Instead of wondering what to do, they might see the welcome section and be all "Eureka! This welcome section looks like the PERFECT place to start. I'm gonna go check it out. *click*" Just like that too. Same words and everything. Wink

Anyway, that's my idea. Lots of other forums do something similar and I like their approach.

Yeah, I agree with this. Most forums I've been to have a section like that. Just last night I was thinking something like that actually. I noticed the new member and said "Wow.. he doesn't really have any place to introduce himself."

We should make a new members section, throw in the original welcome thread and let members introduce themselves in there.

It's like we're on the same brainwave. Go team!

I see that you dug up the Welcome thread. We should at minimum pin this to the top (Alli, dearest?).

However, I still think we need to make those three introductory threads more visible. Even if a new member signs up, there's nothing telling them that the welcome info is in "Shiny Toy Guns Discussion". They have 12 options just on the home page. It doesn't scream for new people to go there first.

Is putting an Icon next to the url out of the question?

Is a possible feat?

I'm not sure where to upload a favicon on this site, but if I can find it, I will. I'll look into it.

Any thoughts on what we'd want it to be?

You how some websites have a little icon in the URL bar, beside the URL? On the left? Like Facebook does? Or twitter? That's called a favicon, and Lash wants one.

How about a disco ball or the letters "STG"?

I don't like the gun idea. I don't think it'll be easy for outsiders to differentiate between a favicon of a real gun versus a toy gun. It might send the wrong type of message.

Well I was originally gonna say disco ball, but I wasn't sure. I guess STG is becoming more associated with them so it could work. lol

I get what you're saying I guess, but I was thinking of a shiny multi-colored water gun looking type thing. But a disco ball is cool.

Oh! I REALLY like the rocketship idea, Lash. It'd be all...only the awesome fans get it. Sorta. Erm, I'm super tired right now. But yeah, a rocketship would be coolness.
